turtle update
the turtles at the beach are hatching like crazy, they start hatching as soon as it gets dark and the temperture drops,

most times they make it to the water , but sometimes they get distracted and head the opposite way towards land

the turtles in the bucket are a few that got picked up by the Turtle Watch woman, she said that 5 or 6 of the nests hatched last night,

she put them close to the water and let them finish of their journey out to the ocean, I guess they swim quite a way before they find a place to grow up,

these two were doing some sort of Olympic competiton, one was swiiming freestyle, but the other wanted to do backstroke or just lay on its back in the sun for a while

the ocean picked them all up and they started swimming,

hope you all are having a great weekend

take care
Ossie

Those are great pictures. It's so nice to just enjoy nature like that....I'm heading out to see lots of nature myself...heading out to Alaska for the next 11 days. I'll bring back some more nature with me for you!

Hope the turtles, you, and your family, are doing OK!

After I divorced my first husband, I moved in with my mother and her soon-to-be-ex-husband. They lived in Xanadu on Jupiter Beach. The house was about a thousand yards from the ocean. Some of my fondest memories are from there. That's where John and I got back together. :o)

One night we were at the beach and a turtle heaved herself out of the ocean. She dragged her heavy body up the beach, through the thick sand and she began to dig. We watched her from a distance for a long time, leaving her to do her business. After a long while, we slowly approached her. We sat next to her and marvelled at the miracle of fecundity. I remember reaching out to stroke her shell. For some reason, I was somewhat surprised by it's mossy texture. And I was delighted by the eery phosphorescent trail my fingertip left. She paid us no mind. The three of us quietly sat in the moonlight with the ocean breeze rustling the palms and mangroves. Eventually we left, and she did too. I never saw the babies hatch. I think that would have been an amazing cycle.

This is one of those life memories that I will always cherish.
